Waxed Linen Thread, Glass, Cork, Wax

Twining, Reverse Twining

I was inspired to weave these 50+ tiny baskets as I was thinking about the intricate patterns on Acoma Pueblo pottery.

Then, I decided to display them in a glass tube, juxtaposing the fragility of glass with the traditional durability of basketry. By sealing the baskets into the glass tube and adding some design surprises in some of the baskets, it encourages interactivity as the baskets tumble in the glass tube and the viewer discovers the unexpected details.

“Basketry Alchemy | Inspired by Acoma” was juried into “Craft Nouveau: International Fine Craft Competition” at Blue Line Arts in California. It is featured in the exhibition catalog.
