I so enjoyed taking a class with Flo Hoppe and her helper Fran. The class was at the National Basketry Convention in Kentucky.
Flo taught Japanese Basketry techniques using her patterns and sample baskets and a lot of hands on help. It was a fantastic experience and this is one of the baskets I made of flat or round reed during the 3 1/2 day class.
This one is not actually called a ‘python’ basket, but that’s what I remembered. Flo later corrected me and told me it’s a ‘reticulated twining’ method. But one of my classmates, Cricket, called it a ‘python basket’ and that’s what stuck in my mind!
