I applied the 23.75K gold leaf after the basket was woven in black waxed linen.
I created this basket as a commentary on the often under appreciated and undervalued art of basket weaving.
With this piece I’m imploring people to Treasure Basketry because it is an integral part of our history and culture as the oldest of all art forms. Basket weaving is one of the most time consuming means of making art and should be valued for the skill, time, and creativity it takes to make baskets.
This piece was selected for the Surface Design Association’s “Southwest Regional Juried Exhibition” at the Tubac Center of the Arts in Arizona. It was also shown in Albuquerque Museum’s “ArtsThrive 2023” exhibit and sale.
